2024 International Awards: Yadu Pokhrel
John K. Hudzik Emerging Leader in Advancing International Studies and Programs

Yadu Pokhrel is the 2024 recipient of the John K. Hudzik Emerging Leader in Advancing International Studies and Programs, which recognizes an early-career faculty member who is making a significant impact on the advancement of international scholarship, teaching, and/or public service and outreach at Michigan State University.
Pokhrel is an associate professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. His research takes a transdisciplinary approach to studying the complex interactions and feedback among water, energy, and food systems under compounding climatic and human stressors from global and local scales. He also serves as an editor for "Earth Interactions" and as an associate editor for "Water Resources Research" and the "Journal of Hydrology."
Funded primarily by the National Science Foundation and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, his research projects span several global regions and he has published 100+ peer-reviewed articles with over 20 journals. He is also a recipient of the NSF CAREER Award and the Fulbright U.S. Senior Scholar Award. Pokhrel has also received several awards at MSU, including the University Teacher Scholar Award, Withrow Global Leadership Award, Withrow Distinguished Junior Scholar Award and the MSU Lilly Teaching Fellow Award.
Pokhrel was nominated by Jiaguo Qi, director of Asia Hub. “Dr. Pokhrel's outstanding global research, continuous and substantial global engagement and leadership, and commitment to international activities through his teaching and outreach at MSU and beyond make him an excellent candidate [for this award],” said Qi.
